ALGIERS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The People's National Assembly, the lower house of the Algerian parliament, on Thursday elected Ibrahim Boughali as its new speaker.
Boughali, 58, an independent parliament member from the province of Ghardaia, won 295 votes out of 382 members who took part in the ballot.
In June, Algeria held the People's National Assembly election.
The National Liberation Front, the former ruling party, led the parliamentary election, while independent candidates became the second political bloc, which is regarded as a remarkable change in Algeria's political landscape. Enditem
